Professor Chen Yang was awarded the Outstanding Research President Award by the University of Science and Technology of China


On the morning of January 13, 2024, the fifth session of the 10th faculty representative conference of the University of Science and Technology of China closed in the East Third Lecture Hall of the Physical and Chemical Building. Professor Chen Yang from the Department of Precision Machinery and Precision Instruments at the School of Engineering Sciences was awarded the 2023 Outstanding Research President Award for his outstanding contributions in the field of optical chirality and bound states in the continuum.

The Outstanding Research President Award of the University of Science and Technology of China was established in 2020 with funding from the Education Foundation of the University of Science and Technology of China. It is selected once a year to recognize and reward teaching staff or research teams who have made significant achievements in the university's scientific and technological innovation activities this year. The winners include a variety of talents who have made significant scientific discoveries or technological inventions in basic research or applied basic research, made significant contributions and created significant economic or social benefits in key technological innovation and integration or high-tech industrialization, and made significant contributions and created significant social benefits in basic and public welfare scientific and technological activities.

 

Dr. Chen Yang is a special professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of Precision Machinery and Precision Instruments at the University of Science and Technology of China. He obtained his bachelor's and doctoral degrees from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2010 and 2016. Afterwards, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Missouri in the United States and the National University of Singapore. In September 2021, he joined the Micro Nano Engineering Laboratory at the University of Science and Technology of China and established a research group on micro nano optoelectronic devices and systems. His main research areas include micro nano photonics, metasurfaces and metamaterials, and micro nano optoelectronic devices. In recent years, as the first author, he has continuously published papers in authoritative journals such as Nature, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Materials, and Physical Review Letters, receiving widespread attention from domestic and foreign media such as Science and Technology Daily, China Science Dailyand Phys.org. At the same time, Dr. Chen Yang has also been selected as a national overseas high-level young talent, a high-level young talent of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a technology innovation candidate under 35 years old in the MIT Technology Review Asia Pacific region (MIT TR 35). He has won the Outstanding Research President Award from the University of Science and Technology of China and the PhotoniX Prize Award from the Chinese Society of Optical Engineering, and has served as a young editorial board member of Photonics Research.
